Michigan Legacy Art Park to honor Tuskegee Airmen
Sculpture dedication and Legacy Award Gala to take place

THOMPSONVILLE, MICH - Michigan Legacy Art Park will celebrate the heroic contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II with the dedication of their newest installation Fallen Comrade, by David Greenwood, and the First Annual Legacy Award Gala, August, 14.

Members of the Tuskegee Airmen and Grand Rapids artist David Greenwood will be on hand to dedicate Fallen Comrade, an abstraction of a P-51 Mustang World War II fighter plane, Friday, August 14 at 2pm. This sculpture is, in part, a tribute to the valor and skill of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, the African American squadron of fighter pilots whose World War II record was heroic on two fronts–in air combat as well as in breaking the barriers of racism in the U.S. military.

Later the same day, the Tuskegee Airmen will be the recipient of the First Annual Legacy Award during the Legacy Awards Gala to be held Friday, August 14 at 6pm.  This award will be given each year to an individual or group that has influenced Michigan’s art, history or culture in a positive way.

The Legacy Awards Gala will benefit Michigan Legacy Art Park.  Tickets are $50 each and include dinner featuring local food and wine and a keynote address by Chauncey E. Spencer II, President of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Central Region.  To purchase tickets online go to michlegacyartpark.org.

Be a part of history and spend the weekend with us!  Crystal Mountain is offering the Michigan Legacy Package from $89 per person, per night.  Package includes lodging, the dedication ceremony, a guided tour through Michigan Legacy Art Park on Saturday, August 15, as well as daily breakfast and admission to the Art Park. Call (800) 968-7686 to book lodging.

Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa and Michigan Legacy Art Park received the Governor’s Award for Innovative Tourism Collaboration in March 2009. Michigan Legacy Art Park is a 501(c)3 non-profit located on a 30-acre preserve leased by Crystal Mountain for $1 per year. Michigan Legacy Art Park features over 40 outdoor sculptures that celebrate Michigan’s culture and history along 1.6 miles of wooded hiking trails.
