Summer Sounds 2009 at Michigan Legacy Art Park
Line-Up Announcement
Thompsonville, Mich. – Summer Sounds 2009 kicks-off with Lake Effect on Friday, July 10 at 7 p.m. Concert will take place in the Michigan Legacy Art Park’s Jessie Frohlich Amphitheatre located within Crystal Mountain, Thompsonville, Mich. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children with a family price of $20. Some seating is provided; the audience is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics. Rides for those needing assistance will be provided to the amphitheatre. Tickets are only sold the day of the concert at the Art Park entrance starting at 6:30 p.m. In the event of rain concerts will be held indoors at Crystal Mountain, signs will be posted.
July 10: Lake Effect is one of Michigan’s premiere American Roots bands. As a family band, they have been playing throughout Michigan and points beyond for nearly thirty years. The band consists of Tiyi Schippers on lap dulcimer and percussion, David Bunce on guitar and banjo, Rachael Davis on guitar, banjo, and ukulele, Zak Bunce on bass, Barry Lempke on guitar, and Ezra Bunce-Shippers on ukulele and guitar.
July 17 will feature Traverse City’s popular David Chown and The Lookout Cats. With 25 years of experience David Chown & The Lookout Cats’ repertoire
ranges from jazz, classics and show tunes to blues, rock, and pop. Members of the Lookout Cats are Laurie Sears on saxophone, Ronnie Hernandez on drums and vocals and Elizabeth Rivers, vocals.
July 24: Tumbao Bravo is a Cuban Jazz combo consisting of Congas, Timbales, Sax/Flute/Piccolo, Trumpet/Flugelhorn, Piano, Bass Guitar, and Bongos. Mambos, Cha Chas, Rumbas and Boleros and just some of the authentic rhythms explored by this exciting group. Formed in August, 2003 by conguero Alberto Nacif and reedman Paul VornHagen, Tumbao Bravo won the 2005 Detroit Music Award for "Outstanding Jazz Recording" for their debut release, Montuno Salad.
July 31: Jay Webber is a full time artist who has performed his original music in venues large and small from Manhattan to San Diego and from Nashville to Austin. Jay's percussive acoustic guitar techniques lend urgency and power to his music. An evening with Jay includes a blend of Jazz, Blues and Folk with a touch of Latin fire and boogie. Jay will be performing with Stephan Kukurugya on piano and Zack Light on bass.
August 7: Laith Al-Saadi is a staple of the Detroit music scene. Born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, this talented 30 year old formed his first blues band, "Blue Vinyl," when he was 15 years old. By the time he was 18 years old they had opened for Blues greats like Buddy Guy, Luther Allison, Son Seals, and Taj Mahal and toured the Netherlands.
