News - Press Release
Thompsonville, Mich. – Friday, July 18 brings northern Michigan’s own Song of the Lakes to Michigan Legacy Art Park, Crystal Mountain, Thompsonville, at 7:00 p.m. with a very special evening for the entire family.
The group has been performing for more than 25 years and their eclectic music is influenced by the maritime heritage of Michigan, acoustic rock, blues, and the members’ roots in Celtic and Scandinavian culture. The group includes Michael Sullivan on guitar, Lisa Johansson on flute, Ingemar Johansson on guitar and Swedish nickleharp, and Rick Jones on percussion.
To open the concert, they will perform eight new songs and highlight their latest project, music inspired by the classic children’s book Paddle to the Sea. The story by Holling Clancy Holling is about an Indian boy who carves a canoe to complete a journey from Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean.
Thirty minutes before the concert, Art Park Education Director, Patricia Innis, will work with children on a special art project. Additional activities will be offered after the Paddle to the Sea portion of the performance.
Admission to the concert is $8 for adults, $5 for children and students and $20 for families. Some seating is available. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and picnics.
Rides to the amphitheatre are available for those who cannot walk the trails. In the event of rain the concert will be held indoors at Crystal Mountain.
