Family Day
Family Day at Michigan Legacy Art Park will take place on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the children’s songs and stories by “Luunappi”. There will be art projects for adults and children, and an opportunity to walk the trails to view the sculptures and colorful fall landscape.
Scouts are invited to earn one of two patches while touring the Art Park. Scouts can complete the appropriate patch activity book to earn either the Michigan Legacy Art Park patch or the Fallen Comrade patch. There is a fee of $2.50 for the MLAP patch and $3.50 for the Fallen Comrade patch per scout.
Family Day admission is $3 per person or $10 per household.
Family Day 2011 Schedule
1:00 p.m. at the Amphitheater
- Concert: Enjoy the songs, stories and poems of LUUNAPPI (Finnish for a finger snap to the ear!). Patrick Niemisto and Norm Wheeler present songs, stories, poems, and fun. Gathering together years of performing experience, one as a singer/songwriter (with New Third Coast and Eino Sunshine), and the other as a storyteller/poet (with the Beach Bards), Patrick Niemisto and Norm Wheeler create a tag-team grab bag of family & children's entertainment.
2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
- Walk the Art Park: Take a fun self-guided tour of the Art Park while filling out a bingo card for prizes.
- Environmental Art Workshop: Create your own secret space in the Park using materials found in nature.
- Create A Picture with Textures: Use rubbings of things in nature to create a picture.
- Meet the Artist: Environmental artist Patricia Innis will be on hand to talk about her new sculpture in the Art Park: Robins!
- Harmonica Fun with Michael Beveridge: Learn to play a song on the harmonica and take the instrument home with you.
