Art - Lawrence Technology University Students

In 2001 David Barr challenged Master’s Program architecture students at Lawrence Technical University to "respond to Midwest architectural history with a creative sculptural idea.” Students studied barns, farm buildings, mines, mills and bridges and created responses in such materials as wood, timbers, rope and cable.

Five of the resulting art works are displayed at MLAP. "Reminiscent Barn” by Brian Jilbert represents remnants from the age of agriculture; “Echo of Lumbermills” by Keith Blum reflects the bygone days of lumber mills; “Voices of the Lumberjack” by Jeffrey R. Fredrick reminds us of our past forest exploitation and present management of the resource; “Every Life has Value” by Deb Brazen shows us our exact location in relation to our world; and “Knotted Interface", by Sujisha Pillai, reflects on the fabric of time and place where we are both weavers and the woven.
